Memorial Park
West Gate Bridge Memorial Park Association
The West Gate Bridge Memorial Park Association (a not for profit organisation) was formed to investigate the possibility and feasibility of establishing a memorial park to increase awareness in the community of workplace accidents.
The Association conferred with State and Local Government organisations, authorities with jurisdiction over the site, the trade union movement, business and industry representatives, industrial support and advocacy associations and private citizens in order to fulfill its Statement of Purpose.
The Park is most ideally situated on the west bank of the Yarra River , and will incorporate the sites of the West Gate Bridge collapse in 1970 and the Spotswood Yarra Sewer Tunnel collapse in 1895.
Victorian Government Support
In September 2000 the Premier of Victoria, Mr Steve Bracks, indicated his support for the initiative and offered assistance to the Association.
