A Memorial Plaque was paid for & erected by bridge workers and unveiled on 15 October 1978 in honour and memory of their 35 comrades who died in the collpase of the bridge.

A Memorial Park was opened on October 15th 2004, the 34th anniversary of the disaster, aiming to increase awareness in the community of workplace accidents.

Families, friends and workmates of the 35 dead and 18 injured workers gather at the site to hold commemorations remembering them on the 15th October every year.

Each worker lost during the construction of the Westgate Bridge was a loved husband, father, brother or mate and all who lost someone in the tragedy will remember them in their own special way. The Westgate Bridge Memorial Committee encourages anyone with a personal memory or reflection of one of our fallen comrades to share their memories here:
If you would like to share with us your memories of a bridge worker, please contact us. We are happy to consider any submissions for publication on this site.
